Benicia Christmas Bird Count

The Benicia Christmas Bird Count (CBC) has a long and interesting history. The purpose of this page is to provide a quick summary of this count and to provide a convenient map of the count circle, as well as links to more detailed information.

  • Founded in 1930 by Emerson Stoner
  • Run by Napa-Solano Audubon chapter since 1971

  • Circle center: 38°08' N, 122°06' W (see map below)
  • 75 to 90 participants in recent years
  • Typically 163-173 species recorded each year
  • 227 total species recorded since inception
  • Often leads all CBC's nationwide for Black Rail (10 years), Virginia Rail (7 years) and several other species.
