Solano County Breeding Bird Atlas
The Solano County Atlas results are presented in a traditional paper bound, softcover format. Unlike the large format, hard-cover, coffee-table book, this version of the atlas has limited photos. Note - this is NOT a guide intended for bird identification. Rather, it describes current and historical distribution, habitat, conservation and population trends and includes an introduction to the biogeography of Solano County, as well as individual maps for every breeding species.
The book is available for $25 via the link below, and a preview is also available online. NOTE: This book was not published by Napa-Solano Audubon, but a link to its sales site is provided below.
Birds of Napa County
From grebes, herons, loons, and ducks to creepers, owls, flycatchers, and sparrows, there is a liveliness to renowned illustrator Hermann Heinzel's Napa. Its playfulness, sophistication, and emotion add depth to our understanding of this place that two million people visit each year. It is more than just a convenient bird guide: it reveals a world beyond vineyards, an affirmation that there is both a beauty and a magic to the forests and rolling hills of Napa.
With over three hundred species of birds depicted realistically in their natural environment-poking at the ground or pecking at pinecones-organized by species as well as by season and region, Birds of Napa County has everything for the experienced or novice birder, including a locater map, a checklist, and a section on rare birds. And it will fit in your back pocket.

Napa County Breeding Bird Atlas
The Napa-Solano Audubon Society conducted a breeding bird atlas project during the late 1980's and the 1990's. The field work was completed in 1993, and the culminating publication was the first-ever breeding bird atlas of Napa county, pictured here. This is the most fact-based and comprehensive volume on the breeding birds of Napa County. A fascinating profile is written for each species, with information on breeding records, habitat needs, nesting tendencies, and future prospects. A map shows the areas where nesting birds were found, and each bird is beautifully illustrated with an artist's drawing.
To purchase the book, send a check in the amount of $18.50 ($15.00 plus $3.50 shipping and handling) payable to "Napa-Solano Audubon Society." Mail your order to Napa-Solano Audubon Society, P.O. Box 10006, Napa CA 94581.
