Field Trip: Stones Lake NWR in Elk Grove and Woodbridge Sandhill Crane Fly-InDate: Sunday November 29, 2015Time: 8:00 AMDetails:Leader: Friends of Stone Lakes NWR Board member/Woodbridge Ecological Reserve docent Description: We will start at Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, wintering home to dunlins, sandpipers, and avocets, as well as waterfowl and Sandhill Cranes. After lunch, we will visit Woodbridge Ecological Reserve to view Sandhill Cranes and other unique wintering waterfowl, hear a presentation on Sandhill Cranes and their Reserve habitat, and view the cranes' impressive, nightly fly-in at a location that is only open to the public during these special tours. Tours usually conclude a half-hour after sunset Viewing these magnificent birds warbling and flying in to roost for the night is an awesome sight! Cost is $5 to $10.
