Field Trip: Bodega Bay

Date: Saturday November 15, 2014

Ken Wilson, owner of Talon Tours and a native New Zealander who has been leading nature and birdwatching tours worldwide since 1995, will lead this field trip through Bodega Bay. (NSAS Event)

Details:

Leader: Ken Wilson

Description:View waterfowl, as well as a Eurasian Wigeon in the harbor, and unusual birds near the boat launch ramp at Westside Park. (Emperor Goose and Steller's Eider have hung out here in the past.) Late in the month, Rough-legged and Ferruginous Hawks may be seen. Look off-shore from the headlands for pelagic species that may have been blown close to shore by storms. A few very rare Eastern migrants may be found in Owl Canyon or in the trees lining the road to the "Hole-In-The-Head". If time allows, we could go north to Salmon Creek and check out the gull flock plus any other birds that may be around.

A packed lunch is a good idea, however, there are a few places to find food if anyone forgets or chooses not to bring a lunch.

This field trip requires a reservation. Please RSVP to Wendy Cole at beehaven2@comcast.net by November 8.
