Field Trip: Lagoon Valley/Lake SolanoDate: Friday August 29, 2014Time: 7:30 AMWeekly Friday trip (NSAS Event) Details:Leader: Murray Berner Description: Early birding on Friday will be a couple of hours at Lagoon Valley Park for migrant warblers, swifts and flycatchers. Lots of birds are moving through. Then it's on to Lake Solano Park for more migrants, Phainopepla and possibly Lewis's Woodpecker. Both locations are easy going paved or gravel trails. Napa carpool leaves from the east side of Sweeney's sport shop in Riverpark shopping center at 7:30 am. Lagoon Valley is off I-80 just west of Vacaville. Take the Pena Adobe exit. For free admission, park near the kiosk as you first enter the park. Napa carpool will arrive at about 8:00 am. After Lagoon Valley, I expect to make it to Lake Solano after 10:30. L. Solano is on the south side of Putah Creek near the intersection of Hwy 128 and Pleasants Valley Rd. Parking is about $5, use the lot on the east side of Pleasants V. Rd. Please note that following birding at Lake Solano there will be a potluck picnic. If you wish to skip the picnic, you must drive on your own to the Lagoon and the Lake. It might be warm-hot by mid-morning so carry liquids accordingly. Thanks. Read more about these trips on the Friday Bird Walks page. |
