Field Trip: Wild Lake Ranch

Date: Friday May 04, 2012

Time: 7:00 AM

Weekly Friday trip (NSAS Event)

Details:

Leader: Murray Berner

Description: The Napa Land Trust Wild Lake Ranch above Angwin is everyone's favorite bird hike of the year. The grade trends up to begin, a middle half of ease toward Spud Peak, up to the overlook for lunch, back down via Three Peaks and its crumbling basalt columns. A four mile round trip. Following the little bit of rain Thursday, the canyon and northern Napa mountains views will be excellent. As for the birds, there is nesting Black-throated Gray Warbler, flocks of vireos, Olive-sided Flycatcher, tanagers, gnatcatchers, pygmy-owl and thrasher. As usual, the wished for migrants. Back to the cars about 1:30 pm.

Napa carpool departs promptly at 7:00 am from the east side of Sweeney's gun and tackle in Riverpark shopping center. All or part of the Napa carpool will stop at the Napa Valley College upvalley campus parking lot (College Ave just west of the Pope Street bridge) about 7:30 to collect that group. The dirt road to Wild Lake is not perfect, and extremely low clearance vehicles are not recommended. Everyone must car pool to the trailhead.
