Field Trip: Skyline and Kennedy Park

Date: Friday February 03, 2012

Time: 8:00 AM

Weekly Friday trip (NSAS Event)

Details:

Leader: Murray Berner

Description:

The two south Napa parks, Skyline and Kennedy are our destination this week. At Skyline we'll walk the gardens and up to the lakes for wintering songbirds, Wood Duck, Red-shouldered Hawk and swifts. This isn't a long hike. At Kennedy, the river side trail follows weed patches unequaled anywhere, and sparrows, finches and warblers are abundant. The river and floodplain to the west should have white geese and big flocks of ducks about now. The usual raptors are aloft. At the college duck pond we may see Thayer's Gull. Carpool from east side of Sweeney's sport shop in Riverpark, departing at 8am. It's a five minute drive to Skyline where the fee is $5/car or free with a pass. Kennedy is free.
