Field Trip: Moore Creek - 7:30 carpool

Date: Friday September 03, 2010

Time: 8:00 AM

Weekly Friday trip (NSAS Event)

Details:

Leader: Murray Berner

Description: This week we have the opportunity to hike the Moore Creek property off Chiles-Pope Valley Rd. Moore runs into Chiles Creek just above Lake Hennessey. The canyon is heavily forested in fir and oak with shady groves along the stream bed where fall migrants pause en route to Mexico. Pygmy-owl and Pileated Woodpecker are resident. The trail is a gravel road trending up and down. Our usual end point is up in narrow part of the canyon; this time I believe that at least part of the group will go a little farther on to see what lies ahead. At the conclusion of all of that we will have lunch (bring your own) at the ranch house beside the pool. It's about 2.5 miles round trip, maybe a little shorter.

Napa carpool leaves at 7:30 am from behind Sweeney's Sport Store in the Riverpark Shopping Center located off Imola between Jefferson and Coombs. Everyone heading in the direction of Moore on their own should wait at the L. Hennessey boat launch facility at the southeasern corner of the lake on Hwy 128 (Sage Canyon Rd). Napa carpool should be there a around 8:00.
