Event: Monthly Meeting and Program on Birdscaping

Date: Thursday November 13, 2014

Time: 7:00 PM

For our November monthly meeting, East Bay naturalist Michael Marchiano will help us learn how to make our backyards more bird-friendly. We will also have our just-arrived book for sale, the Breeding Birds of Solano County! (NSAS Event)

Details:

Food, water, shelter, and nesting sites – these are the keys to attracting birds to your backyard. East Bay naturalist Michael Marchiano strongly encourages the use of native plants in landscaping and the non-use of insecticides, herbicides and rodenticides. His presentation will cover information on identifying birds as well as types of feeders and food to attract particular birds.

He will also touch on enticing healthy insect and butterfly populations in your yards. Michael has been leading hikes and giving nature presentations for such organizations as Audubon, Save Mount Diablo, Sierra Club, colleges, and civic organizations for more than 35 years. He is presently on the Board of Directors for Mount Diablo Interpretive Society and the Resident Naturalist at Wild Birds Unlimited in Pleasant Hill. He has been a birder for over 30 years and leads a monthly bird hike in Contra Costa County.

This general meeting/program will begin at 7 p.m. with 15 minutes of social activities and refreshments, followed by announcements and the presentation. The meeting will be held at Florence Douglas Senior Center, 333 Amador St., in Vallejo, CA. Click here for directions. If interested in picking up your copy of the new Breeding Birds of Solano County---please come early! The book will be available between 6:00 and 7:00pm
