San Francisco Bay Flyway Festival February 10-12th, 2012Napa-Solano Audubon will once again join many organizations participating in the 16th annual San Francisco Bay Flyway Festival, scheduled for Feb. 10-12, 2012. - Not an NSAS Event DetailsVisit us on the Flyway!! Stop by the American Canyon Wetlands (Eucalyptus Drive & Wetlands Edge Rd.) on Saturday or Sunday between 9am & 4pm. Discover the new wetlands trails: take a Family Bird Walk (binoculars provided)at 11:00am or 1:00pm. Or take a self guided walk on one of the wonderful new trails passing through intriguing habitats—grasslands, woodland, salt water bay & mudflats, fresh water ponds, pickleweed marsh & the Napa River. Flocks of ducks & shorebirds are sure to be seen. Also, hawks, hummingbirds & all sizes of songbirds abound. Along the trail, stop & chat with our Audubon volunteers who will share what THEY are seeing through their spotting scopes at stations posted along the way. Our volunteers will also offer Children's activities, resource materials & exhibits. AND - stop by our NSAS information table in building 223 (500 Connolly St) on Mare Island, shop our book selection, chat with our volunteers about the best new places to go birding and select a free gift if you join as a new member. A very special opportunity -- Join educator Beverly Black for a children's Beginning Birding & Journaling workshop. Saturday Feb. 11 2:30pm (meet at our information table on Mare Island) "As we take our bird walk we’ll take a closer look not only of the birds we see but their habitat as well. We’ll make a nature treasure map, learn some easy steps to drawing birds, and learn sketching and recording data techniques to use when out in nature. Children will strengthen their observational skills by writing about and sketching what they observe. Children will receive a journal and colored pencils that they may take home so hopefully they will begin a lifelong passion-nature journaling!” Additionally, our NSAS members Murray Berner, Robin Leong & Wally Neville are leading multiple field trips throughout the festival--to Skaggs Island, American Canyon Wetlands, the new trail along the western edge of the Shoreline Heritage Preserve, San Pablo Bay walking trail & more. Please see the festival program for complete details. Click here to download a flyer to share with others. The SF Bay Flyway Festival is a free, fun-filled family event!
