Bird-a-Thon Rules

The rules for this event are very simple:

  1. Each team gets one day, either from midnight to midnight or a 6-hour window of their choice, to find as many birds as they can. Counts must be conducted from April 1-April 30.
  2. All participants must follow ABA Code of Ethics at all times.
  3. Birds are countable if:
    • They are physically located in Napa or Solano counties (can’t count the Golden Eagle you see flying over Yolo!), and
    • They are considered countable by the ABA (i.e. wild populations only), and
    • At least two people in the team positively identify the bird, by sight and/or sound.
  4. Due to nesting season, no pishing or sound playback is allowed. Participants may listen to sounds on a device at soft volume or with headphones for ID confirmation, but not to call in birds.
  5. Results must be submitted by end of day Friday, May 4 to be eligible for prizes.
  6. Teams must bird together (no fanning out). All participants on a team must remain within voice distance, unless in a car, in which case they must be within sight distance.
  7. A minimum $25 donation/funds raised is required from each person to participate on a team.
